God is working even when you don’t see it
I have prayed for my father for a long time. His control, stubbornness, inability to assess reality, and refusal to offer forgiveness have pushed his closest loved ones away, leaving him in old age alone with very few social interactions with family. The Lord has yet to answer my request, although year after year I continue to bring it before Him. Honestly, I have wanted to stop praying because it seems like an impossible task.
Until I read Mark 1.
Mark begins his Gospel by pointing back hundreds of years to a promise God made through the prophets Isaiah and Malachi. Seven hundred years before the appearance of John the Baptist, Isaiah testified of one who would prepare the way in the wilderness. Four hundred years before John the Baptist appeared, Malachi called the hearts of Israel to attention, pointing to the prophet who would come to prepare the way for the coming Lord.
For generations, people waited. Kingdoms rose and fell, and empires ruled and disappeared.
But God had not forgotten.
Hundreds of years later, John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, calling people to repentance and preparing the way for Jesus. What looked like silence from heaven was actually God working through history, moving every detail into place.
God fulfilled His promise exactly as He said He would.
We often forget: God’s promises are not limited by our timelines.
Many of us carry prayers that feel unanswered. We have asked God for healing, direction, restoration in relationships, or freedom from struggles. Sometimes the waiting can make us wonder if God hears us at all.
But the story of Jesus reminds us that God is always working, even when we cannot see it.
The same God who orchestrated centuries of history to bring Jesus into the world is still faithful today. His delays are not neglect. His timing is not accidental. His promises are never empty.
If you find yourself waiting on God today, don’t lose heart. The wilderness seasons are often where God prepares the way for what He is about to do.
Just as God fulfilled His promise in sending Jesus, you can trust that He is still faithful to complete what He has promised in your life.
Keep praying. He hasn’t stopped listening.
