THERE IS A PARADISE
A few years ago, I got a taste of what felt like paradise. My wife and I were on vacation—sun on our faces, drinks in our hands, and no responsibilities calling our names. Everything was easy. But the hardest part wasn’t leaving the resort—it was returning to real life: the emails, the stress, the responsibilities. Reality hit fast, and it didn’t feel like paradise anymore.
You’ve probably experienced the same thing. We all want life to feel like paradise—but it doesn’t. It’s messy and often disappointing. In those moments, it’s easy to start questioning Jesus: If You’re really God… why don’t You change this? Why don’t You fix my situation?
That’s the exact tension we see in Luke 23. As Jesus hangs on the cross, people mock Him: “If you are the Christ, save yourself.”
But one man responds differently. One of the criminals hanging with Jesus acknowledges his guilt and simply says, “Jesus, remember me.”
That’s it. No bargaining. No performance. Just surrender.
And Jesus responds with a powerful promise that should encourage everyone: “Today, you will be with me in paradise.”
Jesus doesn’t come down from the cross or fix the man’s immediate circumstances. Instead, He offers something greater: eternal life.
In the chaos of life, there will always be a desire for paradise. But Jesus didn’t come just to make your Tuesday better. Rather, the truth we often miss is this—Jesus came to rescue your soul.
You may be questioning Him today, wondering why He hasn’t changed your situation. But what if He’s offering you something better than temporary relief? What if He’s offering you Himself?
A good day may be followed by a bad one, but eternal life with the living God is the only true happily ever after. There is a paradise awaiting you—it is found in the person of Jesus, not in your circumstances.
