WHat’s Next
What’s Next After You Believe?
There’s a moment many of us reach in our faith journey where the question isn’t “Is Jesus real?” but “What do I do next?”
That was the question on the day of Pentecost.
After Peter boldly proclaimed who Jesus truly is—Lord and Christ—the crowd was “cut to the heart” and asked, “Brothers, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37). They believed the message. They were moved. But belief demanded a response.
Peter’s answer was simple and clear: “Repent and be baptized.”
Repentance is a turning—away from sin and toward God. It’s not about perfection; it’s about surrender. It’s choosing to stop managing your sin and start trusting Jesus with your whole life. For many, that’s the hard part. We believe, but we hesitate to fully let go. We fear change, accountability, or what others might think. Yet Scripture shows us that delayed obedience is still disobedience.
Baptism is the next step after repentance. It doesn’t save you—Jesus does that. Baptism is a public declaration of an inward transformation. It’s you standing before God, the church, and the world saying, “I belong to Jesus now.” Just like a wedding ring doesn’t make you married but shows everyone that you are, baptism outwardly displays what God has already done inwardly.
In Acts, the pattern is consistent: those who received the word were baptized—immediately. No long waiting periods. No spiritual checkpoints. Just obedient faith.
If you’ve believed in Jesus but haven’t been baptized, the question isn’t “Am I ready?”
It’s “Is Jesus Lord?”
And if He is, obedience doesn’t start someday—it starts now.
Maybe today, God is gently asking you the same question He asked them that day:
What will you do next?
